In India, the Delhi High Court last Friday has lifted a ban that had prohibited smoking in movies.

India has banned smoking in public places last year. Already in 2005, showing people from smoking in movies and on television was banned, as would be glorified by such scenes of smoking, the tobacco control. The Indian film industry, also known as "Bollywood" produces more films than Hollywood, and presents their macho heroes like with a cigarette in his mouth.

"A movie should reflect real life in all its facets. And smoking is also just a reality. Directors should not be restricted by all sorts of authorities in their work, "said the judge who passed sentence, quoted in the press release.

The Indian Ministry of Health and tobacco control have not yet made any comment on the verdict.
